A Story
MOTHER ~ FATHER
"Earth Family" - from the Ojibway tribe

All earth and sky things say Migwetch (Thank You). From the bugs to each blade of grass, from the tree top birds to the fish in the sea, from you to me, we say Migwetch. From the low Earth to the great Sky, we hear the harmony of our Self, one another, Earth Mother and Sky Father. We Join in this song to become of one mind and one peace.

We Lsiten to the pulse of life and thank Earth Mother, for you are the life giver. We hold you in high regard, for we know you carry the secret of creation in your womb. We are your flesh and roots. All from Earth returns to you. The spirits of our ancestors are held in your rocks, as we, too, will be welcomed back to your breast as clay. Our mother, you nuture us and provide everything we need. And your mountains reach to Sky Father. For this we say Migwetch.

Sky Father, we look to your blue blanket that covers us. Your clouds, thunderers and four winds provide for us. When our Grandfathers beat thier drum, we hear your thunderers cross the sky. The drum wakes Earth Mother each spring and your warm wind grow things your winds change the seasons and move the breath to the Four Directions of East, South, West, and North, to be again and again shared by all of our relatives. For this we say Migwetch.

We say Boo-zhoo (Hello) to our cousins-the Star People. In nighttime harmony, you sing your chorus to Grandmother Moon's song. Your torches guide us home. your dancing warms our heart. For this we say Migwetch.

Grandmother Moon, From your Nighttime perch, you watch over us when Granfather Sun sleeps, and you reflect his dreams. you are the Grandmother of all life, of all nations, of all women. Your moon cycle is in harmony with women everywhere and the power of birth is again proclaimed. You teach us balance, for after day, there is night. You caress the waters, causing the tides. You leave your sweet scent in the morning dew. We listen to your song with our soul's ear. For this we say Migwetch.

All creatures bow in thankful homage upon the first rays of light and warmth to you, Grandfather Sun. You give us light each day to complete our purpose. Your light supports growth and all needs are filled. Your strength is healing and comforting. your rays reach to touch our beating hearts, and give us joy. For this we say Migwetch.

In the way of the sacred pipe, making the invisible - visible, and of happy heart, we say, Gitchi Migwetch (Big Thank You) to Gitchi Manidoo (`the' Great Spirit) for this sacred cycle.
All is connected in this way.
